So I googled the words "Bible verses about stress" this morning and read through a lot of verses that I liked a lot. One of my favorites was the following:
"In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength." (Isaiah 30:15)
We just put our house on the market. We don't know where we want to be, but know this is not
the right place for us anymore. It has been a great starter home, but we outgrew it very quickly after the arrival of Nate and Lilly. Everything is up in the air, and I have no idea how it will all play out. Will anyone want to buy our house? Will we find a house that we like, or more importantly, that we can
afford? Will it be the right choice for our family? Will the timing be right? Times like these make me anxious, because I
have no control. But they also remind me that we never
really have control, we only
perceive we have control. I have been thinking a lot this morning about God's will and trying to remember and trust that He will put us right where we need to be, even if that means we have to stay in our current house. He had His own timeline for our precious babies that because we didn't understand, caused us a lot of grief and tears. Had we only seen a glimpse into our future, known how happy we would be when all was said and done, not one tear of sadness would have ever been shed. I am trying to focus on that now, when I want to throw up from worrying. He is in control and He knows exactly what will happen, even if we don't. That makes me feel a little more at peace. I know that if not being able to sell our house or not being able to find a house to buy is the worste of our problems, then we are really lucky.
Here are some other good ones:
"Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. So do not worry, saying 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today's trouble is enough for today." (Matthew 6:8b, 31-34)
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9)
"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" (Psalm 27:14)
"Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10a)
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
