Well it took seven years and three kids, but it finally happened.. a broken bone! It all happened so fast. Ben and Lilly were on our bed one evening playing (supposedly just reading at first). All of a sudden Ben runs out screaming bloody murder and his left arm was just hanging there not moving. Lilly said he fell off the bed but she didn't see it, she just heard it. He was pointing to his elbow saying "hoot, hoot!" It was awful. We took him to urgent care and after they saw a break on the x-ray. Of course he was screaming the entire time because he hates doctor offices so much!! Brian distracted him for a while with his phone while we were waiting..
The next morning he seemed to be feeling fine, but I got a call from Orthopedics that the doctor had looked at his x-ray and wanted to see us right away. Something about the x-ray being "abnormal". Of course I remained calm until I could hear the whole story from the doctor. Just kidding, I flipped out right then and there. Luckily, they just wanted us to drive all the way to Fort Worth to tell us Ben's break needed surgery to place pins in his elbow. UGH. We scheduled surgery for the next morning.
We got to the hospital at around 5am. Ben was super excited about it. IT WAS AWFUL. Here he is in his little baby hospital gown. :( He screamed and cried while they wheeled his tiny little self away in that big huge hospital bed. Brian and I both cried.
He was still crabby after he woke up from anesthesia, but finally fell asleep while we were still in the post-op area. Poor baby.. They put the pins in, and then put the cast around it with slits up the cast that allowed for swelling.
At home on the couch a couple hours after surgery.
He was exhausted- we both were!
Two days after surgery was Halloween! We walked around the neighborhood and the kids got a ton of candy. Ben did great going up to the door but needed help once he got up there. He would just kind of freeze! But they were all super cute. A power ranger, a peacock and a Vikings football player.
Love our sweet neighbor, Donna!
One week later, x-ray looked great, bones were back in the right place! Cast was re-covered and we were on our way for two more weeks. YAY!
Nate and Lilly wanted to sign the cast- so sweet big brother and sister. <3 p="">
The cast didn't slow him down. He got used to playing in it quickly and did great the whole time (onlt had to have it on for a total of three weeks).
You can see the writing on this one..
To add to the drama (yay), the night before we were to get his pins out of his elbow and cast taken off, Nate and I both got a horrible stomach virus and were sick as dogs all night. Poor Brian had to take Ben and wrestle him all by himself after being up taking care of Nate and me all night. Luckily by the next night, Ben was happy with his cast off and the rest of us were feeling better too.
Glad that's DONE! Now, on to the next fire.. haha!!! (NOOOOOO!!)
